Sarawak Cultural Village

Popularly known as the 'Living Museum',the Village is a showcase of a kaleidoscope of Sarawak's cultures and traditions. On arrival you will explore the 7 authentic replicas of ethnic houses. Chinese Farm House, Malay's Stilted House, Melanau Tall House, Penan Hut as well as Longhouse of the lban, Bidayuh and Orang Ulu. Displayed in each house are the many artifacts made by the individual dwellers. Demonstration of arts and crafts like beadwork, wood and bamboo carvings. ``Pua`` weaving and straw weaving can be seen while touring the Village. You wil also be entertained with 45 minutes of the traditional dances of the various ethnic tribes of Sarawak at the Village theatre.

Kuching Cat Museum

The World's first Cat Museum devoted to all things feline, is in Petra Jaya in the Kuching City North City Hall. Cat lovers will find a range of exhibits, photos, feline art and cat souvenirs, over 4000 of them. The museum is housed on the ground on the City Hall building, spread over four galleries covering a total area of 1035 sq meter.

Sarawak Museum

The Sarawak Museum, straddling both sides of Jln Tun Abang Haji Openg, has one of the best collections in Southeast Asia. The old wing opened in 1891, is designed in the style of a Normandy town-house. It houses an exceptional ethnographic collectio, some good natural history displays and a section on the oil industry in Sarawak. The exhibition of traditional wood-carvings on the 1st floor is magnificient. The new wing across the footbridge is used for events and exhibitions in the Museum grounds there is an Aquarium, the Botanical Garden and the Heroes Memorial.

Borneo House Museum

Borneo House Museum is an interactive 3D and educational museum in Kuching with a floor of more than 12,500 sq ft. The museum interactive display Sarawak's nature, culture, heritage and food to life. It has 4 zones which are Sarawak's Nature, Old Sarawak, Sarawak Today & Sarawak Iconic Food.

At night, the bridge is a lovely scene with colorful LED lights animating the shape of the bridge which crosses the wide Sarawak River.

Waterfront & Darul Hana Bridge

Kuching Waterfront, which lines the south bank of Sarawak River is THE place to sample the city's cosmopolitan vibes. During the daytime, it offers scenic views of the Astana Fort Margherita and the Malay Kampung's across the river; but night-time is when 1t really comes alive! It seems like half of the city is out meeting friends, watching a show, or just shooting the breeze. For something different, why not try Jetty-hopping along the river on the local Penambang boats and savour the different sights sounds (and delicacies) between the two riverbanks. The DarulHana Bridge in Kuching is the only pedestrian bridge that connects the North and South of Kuching at the moment.

Satang Island

Kubah National Park

Kubah National Park is an easy and enjoyable day trip from Kuching. Situated on a small sandstone plateau, this small park (2.230 ha ) boasts crystal clear streams and a host of small waterfalls and bathing pools. Kubnh is mostly covered by mixed dipterocarp forest but it also has one of the widest selections of palms and orchids in Borneo. The varied wildlife includes bearded pig. mouse deer black hornbill and many species of amphibians and reptiles. However Kubah's wildlife tends to stay deep in the forest so it is not really a park for ``wildlife encounters``(Bako is unbeatable in that respect). The appeal of Kubah National Park lies in its rainforest scenery, its waterfalls, streams and bathing pools and the 93 species of palm found within its boundaries.

Bako National Park

Pick up from hotel and drive about 35 minutes to Bako Village. From the village take about a 25 minutes boat ride (depending on the tide) to the park situated in a peninsula. Bako is one of the best places in Sarawak to see wildlife in natural surroundings. The various types of animals that are commonly spotted at Bako include the proboscis monkeys, silver leaf monkeys, long tail macaques, wild boars, monitor lizards, flying lemur, snake and numerous species of birds. Tropical rainforest ranges from mangrove to kerangas (health forest). tropical swamp vegetation cliff vegetation and beach vegetation. There are several trails inside the park depending on level of fitness and interest. You might even spot saltwater crocodiles as these live in the rivers and mangroves.

There, you can have a bird's eye view of Kalimantan Apart from the attractions mentioned, there are more attractions there such as Flower Garden, Rabbit Park, Horticulture Nursery Organic Farm, Simangas Waterfalls and Chinese Tea House.

Fairy & Wind Cave

Fairy Cave and Wind Cave are about 50 min drives from Kuching City. The Fairy Cave is about 3 storey high. After a quick climb through the cave with torchlight the cave opens up into a main chamber. Sunlight streams into the chamber, .enabling you to view the limestone formation of several types. View the beautiful and some eerie shape of nature creations, the stalactites and stalagmites. There is a formation that has been likened to the Goddess of Mercy which at about 3 meters in height resembles a woman dressed on classical Chinese robes, look down benignly upon worshippers. Another formation looks like an old man crouching down. Then proceed to the Wind Cave which only about 10 min drive away. Walking along the platform you will find that this dark tunnel-like cave's filled with bats and swiftest. Look around the wall or the cave with torchlight and you might be lucky to spot the bird nest with some eggs in it.

Jong's Crocodile Farm & Zoo

The farm set amidst tropical fruit trees and lush-greenery is a home to over 1000 crocodiles. It serves as a perfect sanctuary to these fearsome reptiles where they are kept in an enclosure designed and built similar to the natural habitat of the reptiles. Apart from the crocodiles explore the farm where other fascinating animals such as the bear cats, civets, deer and pythons are found in the state of Sarawak.

Semenggoh Wildlife Centre

The reserve travelling overland (30 min) followed by a brief hike through dipterocarp forest. Unlike in a zoo, the Orang Utans are set free in a 653-hectare forest reserve. Here, young Orang Utans, who were either orphaned or rescued from captivity are trained to survive in the wild. The Sanctuary is not set up as a tourist attraction but visitors are most welcome. The orangutans are the two exclusively Asian species of extant great apes. Native to Indonesia and Malaysia, orangutans are currently found in only the rainforest of Borneo and Sumatra Indonesia. Scientific name for orangutan is Pongo. Their higher classification is Homidae while their lower classification's Sumatran orangutan and Borneo orangutan.

Matang Wildlife Centre

The Matang Wildlife Centre is about 3 km from Kuching. Located in Kubah National Park, this large enclosed area of rainforest is home to some endangered wildlife. Matang Wildlife Centre covers 179 hectares of lowland rainforest with animals in varying stages or rehabilitation. Here, one can gain information and learn about Sarawak's wildlife. The highlight of the trip is the Orang Utan training programme (CSR program) where young orang utans are being taught or retrained to survive in the wild. These Orang Utans are either orphaned or rescued from captivity. Besides these adorable primates, there are also Sun Bears, Sambar Deer, Civet cats as well as three large aviaries that house Sea Eagles, Hornbills and other birds in Sarawak.

Borneo Samariang Water Park

Borneo Samariang Resort City Theme Waterpark is a Resort City within Bandar Baru Samariang, which is a new satellite township rapidly taking shape to the north of Kuching. For locals, this would be a great place to have your kids go crazy and the fun does not stop as adults too.
